Shopping at Orchard

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

So today, or rather yesterday (the habit of posting blog updates after midnight astounds even myself) I went with my sister and her friend (or rather a mutual friend) to Orchard to shop.

So while we walked at Wisma Atria, as usual it was mostly girls shopping for their stuff and the guy being semi-transparent. It seems weird when I compare the behaviour of my sister and her friend to me and my friends. They are sort of formal with each other, and very "quiet-ish", so to speak. When they speak, its in soft, polite tones, and when they laugh its in giggles or just small laughs with their mouths covered. Now lets compare that to my friends (not just guys mind you). They are totally not formal with each other, talking about some weird stuff like, well, O_o and are the total exact opposite of quiet-ish. When they speak, its in highly audible (mildy speaking) tones and when they laugh, it's like as if Charlie Chaplin got reincarnated and appeared before us or something. Well I don't know what I prefer actually. It's kind of more "peaceful" to be with my sister and her friend, but it's more "fun" being with my friends. Oh well =/

Then, I drew FIRST BLOOD. I bought two shirts for a grand price of: Guess :)
Anyway here are the pictures of the two.

Shirt No. 1

Shirt No. 2

Laugh all you want at my shitty camera or my LOL BEDSHEETS.

It's kind of ironic how the guy draws first blood. It's like always the girls who get to see what THEY want or what THEY want to buy or what THEY want to do. But oh wait, that's the experience I got with my female friends. Maybe my sister and her friend are more considerate o.o
Then as I told my sister about the first blood thing, she said, "That's the only blood that you'll be drawing." LOL.

Another good thing about my sister and her friend is that they do not spend like they are daughters of Bill Gates, and are more "swifty"(LOL!) than the rest. The bad thing is that as a result I had to walk around. Alot.

At the end of the day, they bought some shirts as well, and I nearly died from hunger :)

Founder's Day

Sunday, May 27, 2007

I totally forgot to mention Founder's Day yesterday, Saturday 26th May 2006 9am-12pm.
What can I say anyway? Last year of school makes no difference. All around me I hear "Aiya last year already might as well just go. Later come out of RI never experience Founder's Day/detention/Cross Country/Swimming Carnival/Track and Field Finals etc. before... so lau kui (meaning embarrassing)." But hey, if I take things in my stride and think that it is the last year after all and it would be good for me to go to those mentioned above, then one major component would be wasted - TIME. Yes, and Founder's Day is no difference.

It took half an hour to finally get the event under way, with RICO performing their piece. I thought it sounded not bad, except for a few weird sounding parts, but then again to the untrained ear it might actually be correct so who knows? And then the presenting of prizes... THIS GUY WAS GAY. 6 PRIZES TO HIS NAME. But Daniel Chew is even more gay. At Sec 3 he already got 7 prizes -.-
Singing of the song, me and Zhihe were singing super loud on purpose. Saw alot of people turn behind to look at us so we kept singing to show it was us :D And then the guest of honour went to speak and honestly speaking, it was freaking boring. I was trying to place my book in such a position to block my head from Teo Chai Yaw's view, but it was even more tiring to hold the book in place than to just sit there and stone. Speaking of Teo Chai Yaw,
TCY: "Good morning Angels."
Angels: "Good morning Chai Yaw!" LOL.

Went to watch Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End. Was really quite a nice show, but with perceivably less of the humour than its predecessors. Me and leech were commenting on all the stuff we could do in the darkness of the theatre and nobody would know. No stop thinking dirty, we meant eating our smuggled KFC in the theatre D:

Oh yea and about Friday's pool session, I shall just mention this one sentence which left me laughing for 3-5 minutes, until I could even feel the lactic acid from laughter.
Adriel Tay a.k.a. Duck: "God bless this ball."
*Attempts a jump ball, hitting it out of the table*
Might not seem funny when you read it but its got to be experienced to really laugh at it. The way Adriel did it was just so comical and random. Oh well, pool trips always leave me with something to reminisce about. Looking forward to next time :)

Addiction to wuxia shows.

It's been a long time since I last blogged, like what, 3 days?
Well it's not without reason. I've been busy with stuff. Now before you let your thoughts run wild or think, "OMGOMG IVAN IS DOING HOMEWORK ROFLOLOL!!1oneeleven!", you must call to mind my personality and drag yourself back to earth. It is impossible.

Then what have I been doing? 神雕侠侣/Return of the Condor Heroes-ing it is! I actually told myself to watch it last year, but with the onslaught of dota and other commitments, it had to be put aside till this year when I saw it on TV and could not resist the temptation to watch it. Liu Yifei is too damn pretty to miss out on >.<
BUT do not mistake me girls. This is not the same type of fanatical "OMG I LOVE WUZUN" type of fandom, but more of the "ok she's quite pretty" kind. I will NEVER go to such a fanatical stage for any TV/radio/music/video/movie/super star. Never.
But I digress yet again. I've been through 38 heart-wrenching yet heart-touching episodes, and I do not regret spending my time on it.

Now I think I did mention that I hate Chinese, and this is why I am illiterate in it. But why am I watching a Chinese show, and such a Chinese show at that? Super chimmified imba manners of speaking and refined language of the olden age does not really suit Mr. Ivan, does it?
This is where you are WRONG. I love and adore wuxia shows, 天龙八部,射雕英雄传,倚天屠龙记, I have been through them all. Yet I still devour these shows like I've never watched them before. Well I'm a sucker for such shows I guess. Although without subtitles, the show would be ALOT less interesting o.o

3 more episodes left before I finish the entire series, and I'm really loving every bit of it. To all of you who will not die watching such shows, this has to be a must-watch, even though I'm sure most of those people would have already watched it eg. Foolai o.o

With half the class having quitted dota, calling it the bane of their academic results (looking at my own, I can't argue otherwise D: ), I am left bored. Maybe it's time to start looking at other newer games. Recommendations anyone? And NO not WoW. I do not spend money on my games.

THE IMPOSSIBLE QUIZ

ivan fed the world.

Finally some relaxation.

Monday, May 21, 2007

Its funny when I entered the classroom of 4A this morning at 7.20 am with my usual vigour and energy and I saw everyone with their faces buried in some mugging material or busy copying things down. "What are they doing?" I thought.

I never knew I would be doing the same soon.

Over the weekends, we were supposed to complete Maths assignment, and mug for SS and CLE assignments/quizzes (SINCE WHEN WAS CLE MUGGABLE? I'll talk about this later...), which after 20 seconds upon entering the classroom I realize I had not done. Not a single piece. And so begins the mad rush to complete my work.

And so as we were on our way to SS written assignment later, Jon Gan was commenting on how almost every period today has an assessment. SS, CLE, English has presentation which our group has completed, Chinese which has oral presentation.
By the way, Cai said she could not make it so we had a free period. I screamed my throat hoarse rejoicing. I swear I'll never scream that crazily again. I was practically drowning myself in water at the water cooler just so to provide relief for my hoarse throat.

But nevertheless, the day went by and we find the rest of the week practically assessment-free except for Physics (what a wet blanket!). I still remember Huang Yuting telling me that day, "Ivan ah, must study hard ah. Your physics doing very badly you know." I was basically laughing like mad after that. Ask Shawn if you don't believe.

But I digress. The week is left free and empty. Why am I not jumping in joy and jubilation? Because of the possibility of the RETURNING of papers. Ah, that strikes a fear in everyone's... oh wait... only my heart -.-
So basically I pray for my survival, and for everyone else's, even though I know I do not need to give them any more help. They pwn me anyway. I PHAIL. *slash wrist* XD

Ah yes CLE. Character and Leadership Education. Now let's dissect those words shall we? Character - The combination of qualities or features that distinguishes one person, group, or thing from another. Leadership - Capacity or ability to lead. Do those in any way seem muggable? If CLE was in any way muggable, that would be the day that I actually do my Maths Assignment the day that I get it (which is never by the way). CLE is not a subject meant to be mugged, but rather a subject meant to be practised. We can learn all the theory we want about what having a good character entails, or having good leadership can do for you, but if its not being practised, what is the point? What is the point in giving fake remarks like having getting an "Excellent" score for Interpersonal skills if you are actually nothing but an outcast among the class, unaccepted by even the closest of your peers, not even the person sleeping next to you? (Oh well... he doesn't really care about anything. He just sleeps...) What does it matter? Won't it be ironic when you see the top misbehavers in school getting top marks for CLE, which is not turned into something muggable? I plead to the school, CLE cannot become a muggable subject. It's meant to be practised not mugged. Also, having such obvious bias in the grading system, which is from a subjective point of view of the teachers, does not really help in the student development as much as you would like to think, RI.

Wake up, RI. Stop dreaming that you are actually developing the future leaders of the country. Top 3% of the cohort even if you are last in the school? I shall reiterate what I said to Gene and Jon Gan today: Bullshit.

MSN tricked me.

Sunday, May 20, 2007

I came online today. Saw some people online and went ahead to dota. Asked leech to dota with me, no response. Ok never mind then.
So after 6 hours of dota, I looked at my MSN list again. STILL the same people online. Then I remembered that Starhub screwed up today for awhile, so I went to re-sign in, and voila so many more people came online -.-

Anyway what did I do for the weekend? Hmmm... think. Think long and hard, it might dawn on you. Think more...

DOTA!* WEEE! NO SURPRISE! -.-
So yea basically my weekend was wasted on dota, and I spent so much time on it that I only bothered checking it today and posting some random crap. Off to dota somemore, tata :)

Library Trip

Thursday, May 17, 2007

Today picked No. 3 for English Trailer and Oral Proposal. When I picked that number, Jason was going, "Aiya sure zhong liao, number 3 always zhong one." Sure enough, we got picked to go, and first group to go as well :)

So we went up there and decided to show the trailer first. Apparently according to Malani she was quite happy with it, so I guess I'm satisfied with my work. But well, not everyone in class was too happy with it, maybe it's just too noobish for their personal tastes. Oh well I did my best, will never even step into the realm of Zhiqian or Foolai imbaness, but at least I'm satisfied with myself.

Oral Proposal. Ah yes everything went downhill from there. Basically it was looking pretty screwed for our group. Lack of cohesion, lack of preparedness, lack of confidence... I myself was looking down at my script pretty much of the time. Jason provided some comic relief with his over-enthu presentation though :)
Questions killed us, and I doubt we will be scoring over 70% for that Oral Proposal, but oh well at least its over and "TENSION'S GONE!" -- Russell Peters O_o

After school we went to eat at S11 as usual, and after that we had a slight deviation from the usual plan of walking around J8 - we went to the library. According to leech, he said that he had fun the other day, so I trusted him and followed him and the rest to the library.

What followed was an extreme case of flatulence on leech's part. We decided to walk around and do our usual CoT stuff, and then we just sat and chatted in an enclosed space. About 7 farts later, I told leech to get out of the place whenever he wanted to fart again. He went out alot of times -.-
We sat down and talked about... well... forget it. LOL. Leech, Julian and Gene, the secret is between us. TEAM DO NOT LEAK IT OUT! At least not on my tagboard -.-

Oh well, not a completely wasted trip. Saw some nice stuff and all, will do it again if there's another opportunity. Rainy days and indoors (more people) :)

One day of this craziness is over. Chemistry practical is over (think I did ok), Chinese 演讲稿 was slipshod work, but who cares because I will be getting slipshod marks in the end anyway... English trailer is basically done, even though I think compared to other groups my own is nothing at all. English oral proposal? Rushed last minute work as usual. Probably screwed up as well. Biology assignment? LOL no time to write action plan. Bye bye 8 marks.

What's due tomorrow? English trailer and oral proposal will be presented tomorrow, and Geography which I think I will have to solo due to Jon Gan's uber last minute rushing of trailer. Well he helped for Biology its time to repay him :)

Anyway this is just a short update so nothing much will be written today.

P.S. I am very happy that the floodgates were opened. Even if it was just a single trickle to come through the dam, I appreciate it as well.

Jam-packed two days

Monday, May 14, 2007

These two days are set to be crazy:
Tuesday - Chinese 演讲稿 (do finish in one day), Biology Assessment, English Trailer, English Oral Presentation, Chemistry Practical, Maths File Check
Wednesday - English Trailer, English Oral Presentation, Geography Draft Report

I feel sad for myself. Everyone around me complains of OMG I GOT SO MUCH WORK TO DO but I realise that I still have not touched my trailer and cannot touch it until I get my video and pictures from Zhihe today. Even if I push it to Tuesday, there still will be too much for me to do at one go, so I must start today or else I will drown in work (thanks to a freaking unreasonable Chinese piece of work that we have to comply with).

Biology assessment is not really about not knowing how to do. Its about not knowing WHAT to do. Ask the teacher, teacher dao us. What can we do? Try to anyhow do by ourselves and get another 4/12 grade which will pull up my overall score anyway.

Anyway on to the humour. Our English group was explaining to our interview subject what she was supposed to do about the video when we came to the swagger part. Then she refused to believe that she swaggered, explaining that she was probably angry at something. But the weird thing is, who swaggers when they're angry? O_o
Then AngJJ went to ask her about the possibility of interviewing her in the June Holidays (not even a holiday...) and he used SUPER FORMAL language.
"Uh...Ma'm. We still need to interview you, probably in the June holidays. So we would like to ask you when you are free so that we can conduct our interview."
Sounds not formal? Add typical AngJJ voice and *BOOM* there you have it, super serious and thereby comical AngJJ style.

At KFC after that, there was a baby crying, so Jason was saying the baby either fell sick, feels hungry, or pooped in his diapers. Then when CY and me were about to praise him for being a good father in the future, Zhihe said,"It's good that you know so much about yourself." LOL. Then AngJJ gave that "walao", making us laugh even more.

Well, in spite of all the stress and workloads piling up, we can always find the space for some humour in our lives eh?

Death of my legs

Friday, May 11, 2007

I am here today to announce something: the death of my legs.

Firstly today, there was 2.4 km run in the drizzle. I thought that it would be crazy to run in the rain because of the humidity and the soaking of your shirt, but Zhihe told me that he had experience and to trust him that running in the rain was good.

DAMN it was good. Because our lovely school happily decided to abolish the track, we had to run on the artificial field, and 7 laps + 20m. So other than the usual bumps, the rubbery stuff going into your shoes and stuff like that, some parts of the field were drenched and we were basically running into puddles, creating the ultimate fear of every girl/woman/teacher - wet socks.

Now we all know wet socks stink like hell. Heck, even I run away from Zhihe's wet socks or revolt at the stench of my own. But when we have approximately 28 people with wet socks in the class all drying their socks, that is something never experienced before.

But I digress. Basically I did not feel tired until the 6th lap, but still managed to keep up directly behind Yizhen (China scholar). Then came the fun part. Three quarter way through the 7th lap, I started to chiong and eventually beat Yizhen by 8 seconds. But even still my timing sucks. Don't laugh at it all you sub-10 or sub-11ers, but I got 12:13. But even so that is still my personal best. I realised each time I am improving by 10 seconds. YAY! So I think its a matter of time before I go sub-12 and into the league of normal runners -.-

Hockey Interhouse was next up in killing my legs. Basically after the 2.4km run, my legs still felt kind of energetic, so this was the main reason why my legs died.

But I am happy to announce that Moor House got 3rd, behind Morrison and Bayley. Sounds like its not a great achievement, but you cannot complain when you are up against all-star teams like those. So basically:

Buckley 0:0 Moor
Morrison 2:0 Moor
Bayley 2:2 Moor
Hullett 0:8 Moor

I kind of pity the Hullett guys. They were the whipping boys of this competition. When people discussed about challenging Hullett, it was not about winning or losing, but rather about the number of goals they can plunder through their defences. But well I can't say much because my team scored the most against them.

Hmmm let's see... what events are lined up for tomorrow? Ah yes ORA Walk-a-jogathon. What a great way to send off my legs... to Hell. Well me and my friends will probably just walk and look at the scenery... if you catch my drift.

Desperation over despair

Thursday, May 10, 2007

Stepped into school, saw people mugging for Biology CCT.
Stepped into class, saw people mugging for Biology CCT.
Stepped into project room, saw people mugging for Biology CCT.

Conclusion: Highlight of the day is the Biology CCT.

The big fuss over the Biology CCT that everyone stirred up gradually snowballed as the day trudged on... through SS droning, Maths lessons, and Philosophy free period.

"At the descending limb of the Loop of Henle, blah blah blah. At the ascending limb, due to the lack of permeability to water, blah blah blah."
"The yellow in our urine is caused by bilirubin, which gradually becomes urobilin. This originates from iron. Blah blah blah."

BULLSHIT.

Yeah sure, what was mentioned above might be true, but its bullshit in the eyes of the CCT. Why? No implementation at all. Ok maybe not none at all, but its so minimal that its surprising. Everything is provided in the form of tables and graphs so basically its data response and inference. Whoever said it was necessary to understand the concept of the sugars and amino acids being actively transported back? I'll say this once again:

BULLSHIT.

While it is not necessarily easy (I didn't complete the paper after all), the fact that so little of the knowledge presented to us to study/mug (depending on the person) came out in the test is appalling indeed.

LATEST NEWS:
On a completely seperate note, our flag day chalked up more than $10,000. I don't know if I am allowed to post the exact details, I'll ask my group leader about that.
However, really I have to thank everyone for coming down to help us out and putting your heart into selling the flags. It is greatly appreciated, not only by us but by the people at Special Olympics as well. This has greatly exceeded our expectations, and proves that the RAFFLESIAN SPIRIT (LOL!) exists right here within us. So thank you again.

Sincerely,
Mr. Mag (Rafflesian Spirit Advocate)

P.S. I'm really talking cock at the last part, due to the Bleach withdrawal symptoms I am currently facing (e.g. impatience, talking cock excessively etc.)

Dilemma

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

There were several highlights today:
1) NAPFA
2) Maths CCT
3) JC Courses Talk

NAPFA:

Situps - A (68)
Standing Broad Jump - B (232 cm)
Sit & Reach - B (45 cm)
Chinups - A (15)
Shuttle Run - B (10.3s)

Satisfied with everything except for the Sit & Reach. Really pissed at myself for making a mistake while doing the stretch because I forgot to exhale, and I missed A by 1 cm. But still overall satisfied with the results because I did not get a C.

Maths CCT:

I do not want to talk about it. I will just say two words: single digit. Period.

JC Courses Talk:

Undoubtedly the highlight of the day. This is also where the dilemma sets in. After hearing all the different possible choices I wanted to start planning one course to take, but I just cannot decide whether to go for the Science or Humanities route. I personally feel that I am more of a Humanities guy, but yet everyone says that Science is crucial - teachers, parents, classmates etc. I seriously do not know what to pick. And they say that Maths is crucial in alot of subjects, including the 3 Sciences. I feel that the only Science requiring Maths is Physics, and it is actually okay to drop Maths if you are taking Chemistry and Biology (correct me if I am wrong). So right now, my only confirmed subject that I really want to take is Economics because according to seniors, classmates, teachers and tons of people, it is a really useful subject for the future. While I also heard that its SUPER TOUGH, I think its better to get a subject more useful for the future instead of going for the score only, which is what some of my classmates feel is more important. I don't know, and I think I will not be sure until the end of the year when its crunch time.

I have done my best.

Special Olympics Flag Day

Sunday, May 6, 2007

Damn tired. After one whole day (practically 7 am - 9 pm) I was practically drained of all my energy. And here we are talking about a boy who sleeps at 2 am and wakes up at 6 am every single day. That speaks volumes of how tiring it was to organize, do two shifts of selling flags, and counting coins and calculating.
I came back with the intention go blog about this immediately, but my parents went "STRAIGHTAWAY GO SLEEP HOR!" Then I looked at my lovely, snuggly pillow and my soft, comforting bed and just could not resist the temptation to sleep.

Anyway, we faced a fair share of people with attitude problems, people who refused to split up and loved to be gay, and the lovely hardworking people :)
I shall talk about the nice people only. MR. DOMINIC CHUA OMG. I cannot believe he can be so nice. Only RI staff member who bothered to help with flag day (with a full tin no less), and treating us to chicken rice and drinks for our hard work. And apparently he was good at asking for flags because of his politeness and way of asking etc.
Then theres this person I was selling flags to. Some music teacher. I went to introduce Special Olympics to her and she donated $1. Then here comes the part. I said: "Thank you very much." Then she said: "Thank you! Have a nice day!" Then I was stunned down there thinking: "Isn't that my line? OMG super nice person." Even though such an act does not seem much to you, but for me its all about the small details that can tell me about this person's character etc.

Then we also met Zhihe's sister. David, Chee Yang and I were talking about how much she didn't look like him and that they were totally different. Then we realised that our thinking was affected by skin colour LOL. Then I kept forgetting her name too. Hui... what? Kept thinking it was Huirong but still sounded weird to me, until Chee Yang reminded me that it was Huirou, then I went "Ahhh yes I thought so." Had to keep repeating the name in my head to remember it bleah. This is what I cannot believe - she's only Sec 1 yet she is nearly the same height as me! AAAHHHHH I need to grow taller!

Another matter is KSing (kill-stealing). Me and Chee Yang used this term for stealing another person's target and getting their own flags sold instead. Chee Yang was freaking king at it - he kept moving forward to get the flags which were intended for me (which you could see when they put their hands into their bags for their wallets/purses), leaving me with close to nothing :(
Then Huirou (I remember now) kept saying that me and Zhihe keep stealing hers too, so thats KSing for you. Ruthless, yet you are unable to do anything about it lol.

Counting coins count until our hands smelly. When we finish I thought I could have a sleep on the table - until I realised that the table also smelled like the coins so cannot sleep. Sian.
Then got some small children there who insisted on playing arm-wrestling. This six-year old boy I tell you will be a future muscleman. Six years old and he has enough strength to make me feel the tension. Then I play with this older guy (I don't know his age) and hold him for quite a long time to ensure he had the exercise, then released my hand's strength. Although I knew he was beatable, but this guy was not bad so must give him encouragement for his efforts. He was seriously grimacing and pushing very hard, so I couldn't possibly just crush his hopes right? I'm not so bad la lol.

Also, I must really thank everyone for working hard to make our flag day a success, especially those who really put in their hard work and effort in selling the flags. Thank you all very much.

Vitamin M(oney)

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

Read this.

When we look at today's busy corporate world and look at ourselves, we think that we are not that far off as them: facing mountainous piles of homework, facing responsibilities in group projects, facing the stress from our various CCAs...
It is easy to think that we are suffering like no other when we are comparing ourselves with people who face much less stress, like say for example primary school pupils. However, when we think about it that way, we must also reflect and understand that there are people out there facing stress which we cannot even think of comparing ourselves to, and cannot dream of even in our wildest imaginations. So the next time before we open our mouths to complain about the absurdness of the workload, think about how other people get by facing much more intimidating piles of work everyday, and then think about closing that mouth. However, it is a fact that we are after all still only secondary school students, and that we should still be given more leeway rather than fully blasted in the face by the difficulties that even adults have trouble coping with.

However, the focal point today is the problem about the attitude of people nowadays. In a society and corporate industry driven by stress and pressure, thousands of worker ants do their part in their office cubicles day in and day out just earn a fair share of bread to feed their families. Now in the article we see that money is being given such a high priority, even
higher than the health problems that she was facing. While holding on to a job is one thing, holding on insistently while in the knowledge of niggling health problems is another. As people wisely mentioned, health is more important than anything. Without your health, money is nothing. Yet why is it that nowadays people are taking money to be more important than their own lives? Is it the highly competitive job sector? The need for the money to sustain their living expenses? The greed for money for material luxuries? I feel that it is because of the mentality that our body can take the stress and pressure, and will not self-destruct so quickly - therefore we can work more and earn more money. But humans are humans. We are weak. We are not superheroes who can work tirelessly to save the civilians from the neverending stream of villains. We have our limits. And our limit can only be this much. When we seek to push
these limits in the conquest for more of the corrosive Vitamin M, the risk we face is enormous and definitely not worth it.
So when faced with a job which causes us too much stress in the future,
maybe it is time to reconsider our job options and look for something less stressful, so that in the long run it is better for ourselves both physically and mentally.

This is the first editorial I wrote - regarding my afterthoughts about this incident. If faced by the same situation, what should we do? This simply reflects my personal opinions and is definitely not meant to be imposed on others as everyone has a right to their own personal opinion. I found this article as I was randomly going around the internet, and the stark truth within this article struck me to write this because reality is cruel and we will have to face it someday. Just some random thoughts today...
