Who's birthday is it today? Why was it not celebrated? It's my BLOG'S BIRTHDAY! YAY!!!
Finished interviews for ODAC Exco, frankly I think I'm not going to make it. The way Mr. Tan talked to me was giving me the impression of like:
"Hey Ivan, you're not going to make it into Exco, but I still want you to put in your full contribution into ODAC and deal with the disappointment like as if you never ever expected yourself to get into Exco. You're not going to make Exco, but I still want to see more out of you. I'm not scolding you this time, but make any more mistakes and I will not hesitate to kick you, just like I threatened the others."
...or, maybe I'm just taking on a more cynical view of things here ><
PI is due tomorrow, and I have to settle some nitty gritty details here and there. Thinking back, actually there's quite alot to settle. Better start now lol. I have a problem with people who introduce
footnotes in their PI, though. But not all of them. Those people who put footnotes so that they can explain like the function of an organisation that they want to work with to make things clearer for example, that's fine by me. What's not fine by me, is those people who put additional points for their PI in their footnotes, which frankly makes me disgusted. Rules are rules for a reason. Word limits are imposed for a reason. I believe the 500 word limit was set so that the teachers do not have to read so much bullshit and get the students to write
straight to the point. Now with the convenient and handy function of footnotes, we shall defeat that purpose! Hurray!
It's really a disappointing sight because exceeding word limits was like the tradtion back in my RI days. Every assignment was not considered done unless the word limit was exceeded. Word limits were set for the sake of setting them, and I see people having 30 page reports when the word limit stipulates a maximum of around 5 pages. And no, the person who did the 30 page report in the past did not have a heck load of pictures. It was pure word spammage. What for? To ensure that he hits every single mark on the rubric. What happened to conciseness? What happened to clarity? What happened to cutting down on the bullshit? Apparently it didn't happen in RI.
Now I move on to JC, I see 500 word limit imposed on PI, and I think, "Finally people are going to respect the word limit. Finally people will not dare to exceed for fear of their marks. Finally people are learning to be concise and
straight to the point." One fine day, footnotes came along and destroyed my dream like a
tank crushing a
banana. It's disappointing to see that no change has taken place. It's still the same ol' system of "spammage wins the day".
Very disappointing indeed.
ivan fed the world.
